Celebrating the Ways You Helped Families Thrive in 2023

SHARE

As 2023 ends, we are so grateful for your efforts to help Metro Denver families thrive! Here are just some of the ways you showed how we are a #CommunityUnited:

You helped us celebrate 135 years of supporting families across Metro Denver:
As we celebrated our 135th anniversary as the first United Way in the world, we honored the stories of hundreds of families served and lives changed. Thank you for writing a bright future for Metro Denver families alongside us!

You celebrated a new chapter in Denver’s early child care and education:
In March, we were thrilled to announce construction of a new best-in-class early childhood education center at our building. In partnership with Mile High Early Learning, this center will serve almost 60 families in Denver’s Five Points Neighborhood and beyond.

We also celebrated our community partners Family Tree, Warren Village and Mercy Housing as they opened or broke ground on new early childhood education centers, with investments from Mile High United Way.

You supported families at our community events:
You helped run supply drives to provide parents, children and teachers with backpacks, baby essentials, holiday gifts and Thanksgiving baskets through our Back to School Bash, Women United Village and Children’s Holiday Party. Volunteers like you help create special memories for the families we serve – thank you!

You gave back through Day of Caring:
More than 400 volunteers donated over 1,000 hours of their time at our largest Day of Caring ever! From beautifying parks to serving meals alongside our nonprofit partners, you showed up to create positive change in our community. Thank you also for supporting families during National Volunteer Week.

You helped us answer the community’s call:
Last year, our 211 Help Center provided more than 252,000 referrals for the essential resources that Metro Denver families need to thrive. We also connected migrant families and organizations supporting them to the specific supports these newcomers required, including shelter and food. In February, we celebrated the reopening of our 211 Walk-In Center, where residents can receive assistance from trained staff members.

You joined the 50th Annual Mile High United Way Turkey Trot:
More than 11,000 community members ran, jogged and trotted in our largest ever Turkey Trot. Thank you for helping us raise more than $700,000 to support families in the coming year! We’re grateful for everyone who joined us to make this year’s milestone event so memorable.

You connected families to valuable tax refunds and credits:
More than 300 Tax Help Colorado volunteers helped middle- and low-income Colorado families file almost 7,500 returns, resulting in $11.8 million refunded to hard-work Coloradans. Thank you for joining this important work.

You helped 511 small business owners reach their goals:
This year, our staff and volunteers supported the small business community through our Building Success Accelerator, the THRIVE Small Business Summit and the Website Build Initiative. Additional support and coaching helped small business owners access capital and achieve growth. Thank you to our community partner Wells Fargo for its ongoing support of United for Business and our small business community.

We are so grateful for each community member who joined our work in 2023.

We cannot do this work alone. Renew your investment in our community by making a year-end gift to Mile High United Way!
