Nine Ways to Support Our Community This Holiday Season

There are many ways to give back to our community this holiday season!

Whether you are a long-time supporter of Mile High United Way, or new to our organization, we have a range of volunteer and engagement opportunities for you to choose from.

Mile High United Way provides critical support to families across Metro Denver, connecting them to basic needs resources, employment, stable housing, small business support, tax assistance, and more. We cannot do this important work without volunteers and partners, like you, who give of your time and resources to support our programs and ensure families have the opportunity to thrive. Here are some ways you can engage in our community this holiday season:

1. 1. Run or volunteer at the Mile High United Way Turkey Trot
      Whether volunteering, running, walking, or cheering on friends and family, there’s many ways to get involved with the 2022 Mile High United Way Turkey Trot! This annual fun-run at Denver’s Washington Park furthers our wraparound community support, connecting families to basic needs and more. Be a part of this year’s Turkey Trot!
   2. Run a toy drive or volunteer at Children’s Holiday Party
      Each year Mile High United Way collects toys for our Children’s Holiday Party. This annual event includes craft-making, games, and gifts, bringing holiday cheer to the children and families we serve. You can help brighten the holidays for families by running a toy drive, purchasing an item from our Amazon Wishlist, or volunteering during the event. Learn more!
   3. Donate or deliver Thanksgiving Baskets for Families
      You can help our Bridging the Gap participants and their families enjoy a homecooked meal this Thanksgiving. Through November 9, community members are invited to contribute the items needed for a meal, or donate toward the purchase of a Thanksgiving basket.
   4. Volunteer in 211 to ensure families are meeting basic needs
      Our 211 Help Center is a free statewide resource that connects people to critical resources, including basic needs, health, disaster recovery, and government services. Volunteers support our community resource navigators, who every day helps residents gain access to basic needs like food and shelter. Sign up now!
   5. Volunteer to help families receive tax refunds 
      Our Tax Help Colorado program provides free tax preparation services to low- and moderate-income Coloradans, so they can obtain the tax credits and refunds they deserve. There are many volunteer roles available – both in-person and virtual – and people with all professional backgrounds are encouraged to volunteer! Last year, Tax Help Colorado volunteers prepared almost 5,300 tax returns resulting in $14.3 million in refunds back to hard-working Colorado families. Start the volunteer process today!
   6. Join a donor network
      We believe we are more powerful when we are united. Our donor networks bring together like-minded individuals who create sustainable change in our community and create lasting relationships in the process. Each holiday season our donor groups engage in community-focused activities to further their impact. Find which group is the best fit for you!
   7. Volunteer to support small, local business owners
      If you are skilled in small business management, payroll, marketing, and other business-critical functions, you can donate your time to help small, local businesses reach their growth potential.    8. Partner with Mile High United Way
      Mile High United Way can help create and maximize your social impact program through volunteer engagement, gifts management, thought partnership, and more. We work closely with each of our community partner to create a custom corporate social responsibility strategy.
