Our Women United Initiative Awards A Precious Child Its 2020 Innovation Prize

Every year, through the Innovation Fund, Mile High United Way’s Women United invests in a high-impact, innovative program that supports the advancement of women and girls in our community.

Recently, our Women United Initiative selected A Precious Child’s Precious Perks program as the recipient of the 2020 Innovation Prize. The Precious Perks program was selected for funding because it offers important employment opportunities for girls and women ages 16-24 who are currently out of school and without employment.

Working through their Social Enterprise Coffee and Gift Shop, the program will offer training, skill-building, and other services that help them prepare for excellence in the job market. Women and girls who participate in this program each receive a case manager at A Precious Child’s Empowerment Center that helps them determine their needs, risk factors, strengths, and unique attributes. From there, they work together to set SMART goals, provide wrap-around support services, and assist in navigating resources, training opportunities, career coaching, and more.

The Precious Perks program goal is to help young adults enter the job market with the skills and confidence they need to excel.

“Thanks to Women United Initiative Innovation Fund, A Precious Child’s Precious Perks Social-Enterprise Workforce Development program is excited to launch in April 2021. This funding serves young women 16-24 years old looking for workforce education, mentorship, and employment opportunities in the Metro Denver area. Participants referred from Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Boulder, Denver, Jefferson and Weld Counties will earn certifications, sales experience and clinical case management.” – A Precious Child

Precious Perks will match each participant in the program with a community leader that works within an industry of their interest. This unique and innovative approach is filling an important gap in developing our next generation of women leaders. Learning through a combination of on-the-job training, webinars, classes on soft skills, resume building, financial literacy, company tours, and mentorship, this program helps participants receive well-rounded training to help them succeed in their chosen industry or anywhere else their career trajectory may take them.

This incredible program echoes the heart of holistic service that we stand behind and operate from at Mile High United Way, and we are so proud to support others in the community working to make generational change for those who need it most.
