For many Denver families, Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate life’s blessings with loved ones. However, the holidays can be difficult for some. Each year, Mile High United Way helps brighten the season for the families we serve with Thanksgiving baskets.
Each basket includes everything a family needs to make a delicious meal. Generous donors and volunteers help make the holidays special for others.
This year, we provided 400 Thanksgiving baskets to Metro Denver families, families like Mayia’s.
A month ago, Mayia wasn’t sure what her Thanksgiving plans were. Then, she learned about Mile High United Way’s Thanksgiving basket drive. The Thanksgiving basket was an unexpected blessing.
“I’m so happy that I have what I need for my family. That’s really special to me,” she said.
Mayia is in our Bridging the Gap program, which connects young adults transitioning out of the child welfare system to safe, stable housing so they can focus on their future. This year, she made Thanksgiving dinner for herself and her three children.
“They’re my everything. That’s what I’m thankful for this year – my family, my home, my mindset and God’s favor on me,” she said
