Mile High United Way Receives Transformational Gift from MacKenzie Scott

Largest Single Donation in Organizational History

DENVER, CO — Mile High United Way announced today that MacKenzie Scott has gifted $20 million to support their impactful work serving Colorado children and families in the seven-county metro Denver area. This is the largest single donation in the 133 year history of the organization.

“We are humbled and beyond grateful to Ms. Scott for this transformational gift, and the strong belief in the power of our work that it demonstrates,” said Christine Benero, President and CEO, Mile High United Way. “This gift will allow us to continue to invest in our programs and positively impact Colorado’s children, individuals, and families.”

For 133 years, Mile High United Way – the first United Way in the world – has united people, ideas, and resources to advance the common good. Through a data-driven, holistic, and united approach, they operate programs and support partners to serve individuals and families aligned with key strategic priority areas: ensuring our youngest learners have the resources they need to enter school ready for success; ensuring youth are graduating prepared for higher-education or the workforce; and creating opportunity for individuals and families to achieve economic self-sufficiency and meet emergency and basic needs.

“This gift is a testament to our community – staff, board, donors, volunteers and partners – for all that has been done collectively to position Mile High United Way for this significant gift and recognition,” said Benero. “We hope that Ms. Scott’s belief in us and her desire to support us in continuing our mission and vision will inspire even more people to join our effort. Afterall, we are stronger when we are united.”
