Thank you to everyone who joined the Mile High United Way Emerging Leaders Council Tech Talk event this week for an insightful look at the Metro Denver tech industry.
Mile High United Way fights for the education, health and financial stability for everyone in Metro Denver. As the technology landscape continues to evolve and the Metro Denver community continues to grow, what impact does technology really have on our growing community? And how do we ensure we continue to attract talented employees and companies but also grow our own talent? These topics and more were discussed during the eventful two-hour event.
Our speakers included: Erik Mitisek, Mile High United Way Trustee, President of IMAgine Analytics, State of Colorado’s Chief Innovation Officer and founder of Denver Startup Week and the Commons on Champa; Sam Bailey, Vice President of the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation, Colorado’s largest private economic development organization; Melissa Risteff, CEO and Co-Founder of Couragion, a women-owned educational technology social enterprise; and Mike Biselli, Board Member of Prime Health and Senior Advisor to 10.10.10 and developer of Catalyst HTI, a first-of-its-kind industry integrator in Denver’s RiNo District that bring together health-tech startups.
With incredible presentations and conversations moderated by Emerging Leaders Council member Kelly Underell, there were several important questions the group acknowledged we need to answer as a community, including: how do we build up our young people to be STEM educated and meet the demanding needs of the growing technology industry? And, as Denver is attracting more and more start-ups and technology-based companies, how do we make the education of our young people a priority so Metro Denver will continue to attract innovative companies and employees?
“Business builds community and community builds business,” said Erik Mitisek, one of the keynote speakers. “The power of the community is our secret weapon,” added Mike Biselli.
It was clear from our presenters that the Metro Denver community is the place you want to be if you are in the technology industry and understand the power of the community.
