As tax season wraps up, I’m reflecting on the moments that shaped my experience working at our tax sites and the people who remind me every day why this work matters so much.

Recently, Monica Sasakura, a Mile High United Way board trustee and Wells Fargo VP of business banking, joined fellow Wells Fargo team members for a day of volunteering with Tax Help Colorado at Mi Casa Resource Center in Denver. Together with other volunteers and staff, the group helped prepare 37 tax returns, returning $78,600 to the community.

Happy Women’s History Month! In celebration, we’re highlighting a few remarkable women whose leadership, courage and contributions have shaped Colorado’s history and strengthened our communities.

This month marks seven years since I first walked into Mile High United Way’s 211 Help Center as a Community Resource Navigator. I can still vividly recall one of my very first calls.

As we celebrate Black History Month, we honor Five Points as a reminder that Black history is local, living and still influencing Denver’s rhythm today.

Dalia was one of five 211 Help Center staff who last year traveled outside Metro Denver in our new mobile 211 unit to provide in-person support following major storms and flooding. Patty Ramos and Claudia Cervantes joined Dalia in Southwest Colorado, assisting families affected by flooding in LaPlata and Archuleta counties.

What gives you hope and brings you joy? For me, it is my little one, my Levi. He is my light, and I love seeing his eyes light up when he knows the answer to a question or learns a new word. But it wasn’t always this way.
