For many Denver families, Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate life’s blessings with loved ones. However, the holidays can be difficult for some, especially this year. With the recent federal shutdown and loss of food assistance benefits, many Coloradans questioned how they would feed their families.
In addition to distributing emergency food bags to help fill the SNAP gap, Mile High United Way provided Thanksgiving baskets to the families we serve to help make the holidays bright.

With support from our donors, we provided 530 Thanksgiving baskets this year. Each basket included everything a family needs to make a warm and delicious Thanksgiving meal.
The basket was an unexpected but welcome surprise for Yesenia, a mom in our Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program. Yesenia and her 3-year-old son, Dante, joined the program this year.
“The program is wonderful, but it has still been a difficult time. Knowing I get this little extra support means so much to me,” Yesenia said. “I didn’t even know Mile High United Way had these baskets for us until today. Now, I don’t have to worry about what I’m cooking!”
Thank you for providing a warm meal and making the season bright for so many families like Yesenia’s.
