Youth Get Equipped at Job Training Boot Camp

Bridging the Gap students who completed job training bootcamp

March ended with the first Bridging the Gap Job Training Bootcamp. The bootcamp, part of our workforce readiness initiative, was designed to further prepare participants for the workforce. During the week-long program, nine Bridging the Gap youth attended sessions learning critical job skills such as Microsoft and internet searches, how to send an email and build a resume, workplace communication and professional dress.

The youth also identified ways to handle conflict in the workplace and overcome barriers to employment. At the end of the week, bootcampers were able to apply their new networking skills at Inspiration Junkies and practiced interviews with professionals from the community. Dressed in new professional clothing from a trip to Goodwill, the first BTG bootcamp cohort left the United Way with a list of other young adults in similar circumstances they planned to keep in touch with and expressed feeling very and extremely prepared for future employment. We look forward to hosting the next bootcamp in June!
