Shanell Pays it Forward
Where would you turn as a mother if you were studying for your degree, working hard to make a better life for your family, and you found yourself short on rent due to unexpected challenges?
I called Mile High United Way’s 2-1-1 Help Center when I had nowhere else to turn. That one call helped me get back on my feet. I received support in covering three months of rent as I completed my degree. Never did I think that when I called during a time of need, I would one day be on the other end of the phone, helping individuals in my community to meet their basic needs and solve problems for their own families.
My personal experience with 2-1-1 allows me to empathize more with our callers. I know that my words of encouragement may be the bright spot in a string of hard days for someone experiencing an unexpected job loss, unplanned medical bills or trouble finding child care for a new baby.
Your support creates meaningful connection for people during times of great need.
