Mile High United Way collaborates with WeWork-Union Station

Young people socializing at Altrooizem, a Mile High United Way and WeWork event.

This past August, Mile High United Way hosted a brand new event called Altrooizem in collaboration with WeWork- Union Station. The event was created to provide newcomers with tools for inspiration and activation in local philanthropy.  The goal was to introduce guests to community issues in a networking format and empower them to create positive change in the community through a Kindness Passport. The passport allows for self-kindness by rewarding our guest with local offers to restaurants and other fun places that make for a sweeter journey.

“We were looking for the perfect partner to help bring the Altrooizem event to life, and WeWork- Union Station was the perfect fit. Their innovative and creative spirit coupled with their network of young professionals really helped to launch a fantastic event for those who are new to Denver and want to get engaged philanthropically,” said Anna Robinson, Manager of Business Development at Mile High United Way.  With 115 people in attendance, it was a great way to introduce like-minded professionals to ways to get involved in a new city. Metro Denver is growing by the minute, and to host an event that creates an atmosphere where people can easily get engaged without feeling overwhelmed is something that has been identified as a need in our community. Mile High United Way was thrilled to partner with WeWork-Union Station in order to meet that need.

“When you are new to a city it can be overwhelming trying to find your place. I would highly recommend Altrooizem if you are new to Denver and want to get involved in the community. It was a great opportunity to hear about the work Mile High United Way does while also having the opportunity to network with other civically charged young professionals,” said event attendee Katy Walton. Check out photos from the event here.

The end result of the event is a series of do good, feel good acts that will transform you into a volunteer and advocate for our community. Since the first event in August, Mile High United Way has hosted a Change the Odds board game night; an event featured in the Kindness Passport. This engaging board game developed by the Mile High United Way volunteer team and members of the Mile High United Way Community Impact team helps players build empathy and awareness for the circumstances that can lead to a family experiencing poverty & show the importance of early childhood education.

In addition to the Change the Odds board game night, the Mile High United Way Turkey Trot was also included in the Kindness Passport as another way to get involved in our community. One of Denver’s greatest Thanksgiving traditions, the Mile High United Way Turkey Trot is a four mile run/walk through Wash Park on Thanksgiving Morning.  Named one of the ‘Top 10 Turkey Trots’ by Shape Magazine, this community event is a great way to get ready for Thanksgiving while giving back to your community with nearly 10,000 of your closest friends.
