Making the Holidays Brighter Thanks to Corporate Partners

Volunteers and family at the Children's Holiday Party

Mile High United Way is thrilled to partner with two companies to make the holidays brighter for families in need. CenturyLink and Target are stepping up again this year to ensure that the true spirit of the holiday season shines.

Children’s Holiday Party: CenturyLink and Mile High United Way

Now in its 5th year, Mile High United Way’s Children’s Holiday Party is a welcome respite for families in need in our community. This annual event will include 360 families identified by Mile High United Way Partner agencies that don’t already provide holiday shopping experiences. Families enjoy breakfast and festive activities including ornament making, cookie decorating, story time, photos with Santa and face painting. While the children are engaged in the fun, parents select donated holiday gifts that they take home wrapped that day.

The event would not be possible without the critical involvement of CenturyLink and its thousands of employees. CenturyLink employees donate nearly half of the toys distributed at the event through a companywide toy drive. Employee resource groups ensure that collection boxes are available in office buildings and garages across the region. In addition to the 1,000+ toys donated by employees, CenturyLink also provides event volunteers who wrap gifts, spend time with the families and help the event run smoothly.

Scott Russell, Vice President and General Manager at CenturyLink, is not surprised at how involved his employees are in helping Mile High United Way spread joy during the holiday season. He said, “The spirit of philanthropy and volunteerism is who we are. We are very proud of our partnership with Mile High United Way. In addition to our annual workplace giving campaign, employees are active volunteers in our community. They give and roll up their sleeves because they recognize the need and are truly passionate about helping our community.”

Share-A-Tree: Target and Mile High United Way

Mile High United Way is once again working with local Target stores to get beautiful holiday decorations to families and organizations in need. For the 24th year, Target is partnering with United Ways across the country to coordinate the distribution and donation of holiday display trees. Mile High United Way coordinates the local distribution of these lovely red tinsel trees, ensuring they make it into the hands of families and organizations that might otherwise not have the means to foster a festive holiday spirit in their homes and direct service locations.

Decorations play a big role in getting in the holiday spirit, and Target is proud to bring holiday cheer to families everywhere. “The holiday season is about giving and sharing with others, especially those in need,” said Mark Everett, Target Group Director. “With the help of Mile High United Way, Target is honored to continue the tradition of sharing our holiday trees with families in Metro Denver. Our team members are so engaged in giving back. They generously support Mile High United Way through our annual workplace giving campaign and are engaged in volunteerism. Share-A-Tree is just one more way we show our local community that we care.”

Mile High United Way is grateful to have generous corporate partners to help us bring joy to families this holiday season!
